Thanksgiving Cuban Dishes

Cuban Dishes for Your Thanksgiving Table

We know - we can hardly believe it, either. Thanksgiving is just around the corner with only a week to prepare for a day of food, friends, and family. During this time, we express our gratitude through the best vehicle we know: food!

Thanksgiving staples like turkey and stuffing make for a happy crowd, but what’s the fun in sticking with tradition? Even if it’s just one dish, adding a bit of flavor from another culture will make for a great conversation piece as well as a few happy bellies.

Below are some of our favorite Cuban dishes you can squeeze in between the mashed potatoes and gravy on your Thanksgiving spread.

Ropa Vieja

via Daring Gourmet

We love a good roasted bird, but who said turkey was the only meat that could make an appearance on the Thanksgiving dinner table? Follow this recipe by Daring Gourmet for the classic Ropa Vieja - a Cuban classic.

Cuban Sugar Cookies

via Magnolia Days

These guava-topped Cuban sugar cooks will have you saying “Dessert first - dinner later!” No one will blame you once they taste the sweetness of the shortbread combined with a salty/fruity topping. via Magnolia Days.

Fried Sweet Plantains

via ready set eat

If it’s fruit, it counts as healthy, right? You can tell yourself that as you fill up on this delicious island staple that combines fried goodness with the delicate taste of overripe plantain. via Ready, Set, Eat.

Yuca Con Mojo

via The Curious Coconut.

Move over, mashed potatoes; yuca holds the title for this year’s Thanksgiving starch. These mini potato cakes will bring Cuba to your plate in a subtle, yet crispy-carby-delicious way. Go crazy and top them off with gravy; we’re not here to judge. via The Curious Coconut.

Cuban Pumpkin Flan

via the Cuban Reuben

If there’s one thing that MUST stay on the Thanksgiving table, it’s that pumpkin flavor we all crave this time of year. Incorporate some Cuban zest into your dessert table with this creamy pumpkin flan for you to enjoy before falling into a Cuban food-induced coma. via The Cuban Reuben.

Although food is the centerpiece of any traditional American Thanksgiving, we hope that your holiday is filled with family and friends to share it with. Happy Holidays from the Hasta Cuba familia to yours!
